My interest in the film industry began at a very early age, as my father was a film editor at a production company. It didn't take long before I decided that I too wanted to work in this exciting environment. I had no desire to be known as the 'Son of', so my attention was soon taken with the camera department.
After leaving school at eighteen, I entered the film industry as a runner with a small special effects company. There I learnt the basics of film making, becoming a rostrum camera assistant. I soon became immersed in the postproduction but the more I worked with other people's 'rushes', the more I wanted to be shooting my own material.
With this in mind, I started clapper / loading in the studio and after a while I moved on to focus pulling. From there I moved into freelance market working with many of the top production companies such as RSA, Rose Hackney, Howard Guard and Marshall Mount.
It was with the latter in mind that I got my initial break to start lighting when the regular cameramen were not available. Having been offered that early opportunity, I've never looked back.
I now divide my time as a DoP shooting commercials both here and abroad, and lighting for television drama.
